In this project I learned more than just facts about global warming. I learned about how people can come together on something they, for the most part, all agree on. People don’t have to be disagreeing and fighting all the time. There are things that will eventually affect us all that we all need to work together on. While looking up info for my part, what is it; I found some really shocking statistics, and information. This project really opened my eyes to what is really going on, and what might be happening in the future. You can’t just depend on others to do their work, or for things to just come together. You actually have to make things work, and people do their part. I really liked this project. It wasn’t just some easy project we could all blow off, and hope it turns out okay. We all worked together on this, and it shows that when people work together good things can come out of it. Kind of like if everyone works together to help the earth, we could help prevent and save others from what’s going on. This was a project we could learn from in all areas.
I had a super duper good time in your class Pomerantz :] not just saying that haha.

This article addresses Americans concern for global warming. according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports, 47% of the respondents think that global warming is a very serious matter, and 26% deem it as somewhat serious. 47 % of respondents think global warming is caused mainly by humans, while 34% believe long term planetary trends are the cause. The article states that “The term global warming refers to an increase of the Earth’s average temperature.” and some believe it to be caused by human produced CO2 and other greenhouse gases.
I was surprised to find out that in 2007, the former vice president Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.” I didn’t know that. But it was shocking to me to see that only 47% of people thought that global warming was a serious matter. Out of all the people in the country that is a large amount of people, but not big enough. But it only includes the adults in this poll. Have you seen all the commercials about global warming on Nickelodeon? I learned that if you keep your car running for more than 20 seconds you would save more gas if you just turned your car off and it would cause less pollution obviously. I would like to see a poll for the kids to take, to see if they think that global warming is serious or not. We are going to be the ones facing the more serious consciences to come.

I’m not sure if this will be any use to us but… I found this cite with a slide show of pictures and they are pretty intresting. Maybe we could use them if the people in our documentry are mentioning them or we are stating a fact.

This article talks about how we all thought that global warming was something that could possibly become a problem many many years from now. “…it was that the glacial pace of nature would give us decades or even centuries to sort out the problem. But glaciers, it turns out, can move with surprising speed, and so can nature.” We can hardly deny that global warming isn’t occuring any more. With things like cyclones with wind bursts that reached 125 m.p.h., droughts, and glaciers retreating 140 ft. per year how could any one argue against it?
I completly agree with this article. Honeslty it is one of the best i have read. Not only the arguements made to persue you, but the way the person aproches the subject and their style of writing. Im deffinatly jelouse.
The way they talk about how the earth is “ill.” When they say that “The image of Earth as organism… has probably been overworked, but that’s not to say the planet can’t behave like a living thing, and these days, it’s a living thing fighting a fever. From heat waves to storms to floods to fires to massive glacial melts, the global climate seems to be crashing around us.” it makes me think. Not that Im trying to say the earth is actually alive like you and me, but that in a sence it is.. we are polluting it and causing to become sick, and its fighting back. I thought that was really cool.

For the people at the botanical gardens I found a list of numbers, I’m just not sure which to call. Im sure I could call one and they could direct me in the correct direction.
Hello my name is Corinne… and I go to Parkway North High. Our class is doing a documentry about global warming. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind being one of our expert speakers for an interview in our documentry. You could talk about what global warming is, how its caused, or how we can prevent it from progressing. I could stop by the [[botanical gardens]] one day, or you could come by school during the day. Which ever is more conveinent to you. I would be happy to give you the questions in advanced so that you could think over your answers. Any knowledge about the subject is appreciated. This is my number is you want to contact me…. [[number]].
1.What is your initial reaction when you hear the words global warming? 2.What do you think global warming is? 3.How do you think we’ve contributed to it? 4.Where do you see it affecting us the most? 5. How do you think global warming will affect us personally? 6.When do you think we will start seeing the effects? 7.Do you think we will be able to adapt to these changes? 8.Do you think anything positive could come out of the situation? 9.How can we help the situation? 10.Do you think the whole topic is overblown? Why or Why not?

I think the topic global warming is a really meaning topic. I really look forward to doing this documentry and paper. I usually wouldn’t but the subject is something that I always had an intrest in. When people bring up the subject of global warming I always had some things to say about it but I would love to be able to participate in the conversation more. I want to be able to teach and learn in the conversation. Im super excited. :] I really haven’t learned many things I thought I was going to learn. I wanted to learn about all the effects and the proven stuff and read all the statistics. But I have ended up with all these mismatched stories with one person saying that global warming is going to cause worse hurricanes and another person saying it will make hurricanes less frequent. All the information is so confusing and, at times, hard to follow. I was surprised to find out that people dont want to supprt causes trying to help global warming. If its something that will effect not only you but the whole world, it just doesnt make sense why people who have the power to help wont. I really dont even know what else we need, I dont really know what info we have. I dont know what the heck im looking for exactly. I have some info for other groups because everything is thrown together.

Gore, our former president, has decided to launch a three year, multimillion advocacy campaign. They want the U.S. to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Hes getting as many people as he can involved in this. The Alliance for Climate Protection’s campaign, said that they would “combine advertising, online organizing and partnerships with grass-roots groups to educate the public about global warming and urge solutions from elected officials.” They are planning on spending over 300 million dollars in three years. Some will be coming from Gore alone. They are trying to get others involved as much as they can, including groups like girl scouts. They have over 2.7 million members, who were given kits to help get their nieghbors involed with them. They know many people want to help and are concerned they just dont know what to do. They are trying to help people learn how to help and be able to help activly.
This makes me super happy. To know that someone out there is using their money to raise more money to help the whole world. They are trying to get as much people as possible involved and they should be, because everyone needs to beaware and work together to help. Its really cool that Gore is doing this, it makes hima role model for other people with power like his. that you can persued and have people join you in something worth while.

there was a cholera outbreak in Peru due to a change in ocean temperatures. Some people worrie it could bring other things to Peru. People panicked and thought people were going to start dying right and left. Clinics said they could help and told people to come in as soon as possible. All they needed was to get hydraghted and salts back into their body. It was an inexpensive cure. In 1991 there was an epidemic that killed around 3,500 people, which was realativly small. Warm ocean currents encourage the growth and spread of cholera bacteria.
Its scary to think that global warming could bring diseases and whio knows what else to us. We could have new diseases or old ones that we thought were not coming back circling back through communities.
